Holiday 2024 offerings from Farmers’ Market Mama

Here’ a little more information about each of the dishes:

Coconut tres leches cake with dulce de leche is one of my signature dishes and my husband's favorite cake of all time. My spin on a torta tres leches has coconut milk and is served with dulce de leche.

Dulce de leche (also known as arequipe in Venezuela) is sweet, caramelized milk with a hint of sea salt. Delicious drizzled on apples, in coffee or hot chocolate, on cakes or pastry. Use anywhere you would use caramel.

Pan de jamón is a Venezuelan stuffed bread that's ubiquitous at holiday gatherings. It is a fluffy yeast bread filled with ham, raisins, and green olives. Can be served warm or at room temperature.

Pepperoni bread is Italian-American classic. Soft yeasted bread is filled with mozzarella and pepperoni, and the top is sprinkled with sesame seeds. (Can be made without sesame seeds by request.)

Pizzelle are traditional Italian waffle cookies. Available in vanilla, anise, cardamom, chocolate, or chocolate-hazelnut (minimum 1 dozen per flavor), they are fantastic with coffee.

Anisette cookies have a tender almost shortbread-like texture with a colorful glaze and rainbow sprinkles. *Warning: must enjoy the flavor of anise to appreciate these!

Holiday sugar cookies - my version is a sturdy cookie with cardamom, vanilla, and other holiday flavors. Topped with vanilla-flavored, colorful frosting in assorted secular holiday shapes and themes (feel free to make requests, I have loads of cookie cutters!).

Hallacas…Think: a Venezuelan version of a tamale. It's corn masa filled with a tomato-y stew of chicken, beef, bell peppers, capers, olives, and raisins, wrapped up in a banana leaf. Steam and unwrap to eat! One hallaca is larger than a tamal - probably closer to the size of two tamales. One hallaca makes for a solid meal with some beans or a salad. The combination of capers/olives/raisins is very popular in Venezuela and different parts of Latin America! It may sound odd to some, but it creates a delicious balance of sweet and savory.

Italian Wedding Soup is a true labor of love! My family's recipe includes (the essential) teeny tiny meatballs, shredded chicken, pasta, and spinach. But we add a special touch that you may not have tried before - my family's version MUST be topped with a hearty portion of spongy, tender, addictive "soup cubes" that soak up the broth. My grandfather's family was from Abruzzo, and these "croutons" are a regional addition to the traditional wedding soup. They're made from a combination of Parmigiano cheese and egg (and a few other secret ingredients) and add texture and umami to the dish. My cousins and I used to fight over them at my grandparents' house when we were kids!
